Issues
A wastewater treatment plant in Singapore, located in an industrial area, faces significant emissions of gases and odors from its treatment and composting processes. The service provider sought to collaborate with Ellona to implement an advanced real-time monitoring solution for emissions. This initiative aimed to better control the processes, protect employees and local residents, and guard against unjustified complaints. Detecting and identifying odor sources were also crucial for improving operations and minimizing environmental impact.
SOLUTION
To meet the operator’s specific needs, Ellona implemented the WT1 Pro system, equipped with specialized sensors:
- Gas sensors: Real-time monitoring of H₂S, NH₃, CO, SO₂, and NO₂ levels for precise assessment of critical gas emissions.
- MOS sensors for odors: Detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) responsible for odors, enabling the identification of specific odor emission profiles.
- PID sensor: Measurement of total VOC concentrations for a comprehensive evaluation of air’s chemical composition.
KEY RESULTS
Thanks to the implementation of Ellona’s WT1 Pro system:
- Continuous and real-time monitoring: The service provider can now continuously monitor gas and odor emissions, with data collected regularly for proactive management.
- Precise identification of odor sources: MOS sensors have accurately identified specific odor sources within the plant, facilitating the adoption of targeted corrective measures.
- Classification of gas and odor fingerprints: Ellona has enabled the classification of specific fingerprints for all monitored gases, enhancing the operator’s ability to distinguish and analyze different chemical compositions and their sources.
- Process optimization: Collected data has been used to adjust wastewater treatment and composting processes, reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency.
- Enhanced regulatory compliance: The operator is able to adhere to stringent environmental standards due to detailed emissions monitoring, thus minimizing the risk of regulatory penalties.
In conclusion, the collaboration between the service provider and Ellona in implementing the WT1 Pro system demonstrates a commitment to responsible and proactive environmental management. This project showcases the effectiveness of advanced monitoring technologies in supporting sustainable industrial operations while reducing overall environmental impact.
