Issues

Hanyang University's Department of Chemistry has partnered with ELLONA to deploy an advanced environmental monitoring solution in its laboratories. This initiative underscores the university's dedication to providing a safe and healthy working environment for its students and researchers conducting chemical experiments. Given the inherent risks of solvent emissions, technical gas leaks, and potential odors in chemical analysis labs, implementing state-of-the-art monitoring measures was essential to ensure a secure and safe workspace.

SOLUTION

To address this critical need, a network of multiple POD2 devices was installed in the chemistry laboratory. These POD2 units are equipped with advanced sensors, including sensors for CH₄, H₂, CO₂, NH₃, TVOC, as well as particulate sensors for powdered materials. This infrastructure enables real-time monitoring of dangerous gas levels, odorous emissions, and potentially harmful particles present in the laboratory air. In addition to the sensors, an advanced analytics platform collects and processes the data in real-time, providing precise alerts and detailed reports on the laboratory’s environmental status.

KEY RESULTS

Thanks to this network of POD2 devices and the associated EllonaSoft analytics platform, Hanyang University has significantly enhanced its ability to quickly detect and report any potential health and safety risks. The POD2 units instantly alert on-site personnel and facility managers in the event of abnormal levels of gases, particles, or odors, enabling immediate and effective intervention to protect individuals and maintain the integrity of the laboratories.

This exemplary initiative demonstrates Hanyang University’s ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of its university community, ensuring an optimal research environment for innovation and learning.

The key results achieved include:

  • Reduction of health risks: Continuous monitoring of dangerous gas levels and particles minimizes exposure risks for students and staff.
  • Preventive alerts: Immediate alerts enable rapid response to potentially hazardous situations, ensuring the safety of laboratory occupants.
  • Optimization of operations: Real-time monitoring and detailed data analysis allow proactive management of the laboratory environment, optimizing operations and working conditions.

This proactive approach reinforces Hanyang University’s reputation as a leader in safety and innovation, supporting its academic goals and research mission.
